Cerroja Mill
Near Escalante, along the Natural Park of Santoña, Victoria and Joyel, and facing Peñera Montehano and The Mill is the Cerroja. This is a tidal mill, whose origins probably date back to before the year 1047, according to historical documents. This makes it probably one of the oldest tidal mills in Europe. The advantage that Cerroja Mill Dam has it that the tides are surrounding it, so stored water could be released easily, which moved the millstones to grind the cereal. This was the livelihood for the whole region. The Mill is easily accessible on foot or by car from Escalante.
