Cementerio Sumbul česma

El Cementerio Sumbul česma es uno de los sitios más misteriosos que visité durante mi estadía en la ciudad de Sarajevo. Ubicado en las montañas al norte de Sarajevo, por las tardes queda envuelto en la más espesa niebla y, con el frío y la nieve, se vuelve casi imposible ver a pocos metros de distancia. A pesar de que un día soleado es inmejorable, quizás el invierno bosnio es ideal para visitar un sitio como este: un duro recuerdo de la cantidad de personas que fallecieron durante la Guerra de Bosnia en la década de los 90’s. Para llegar desde el casco histórico de la ciudad hay que caminar poco más de un kilómetro por las calles más empinadas que vi en mucho tiempo. Es de verdad sorprendente ver cómo hacen los locales para conducir o caminar hasta allá arriba sin patinar en el hielo. En el camino, verás la vida real de los habitantes de esta ciudad y la pobreza que aún persiste en esta parte del mundo. No estará entre los atractivos turísticos principales de la ciudad, pero el cementerio merece la pena ser visitado por quienquiera que esté interesado en conocer la otra cara de Sarajevo.

The Sumbul Cemetery is one of the most mysterious places I visited during my stay in the city of Sarajevo. Located in the mountains to the north of Sarajevo, in the afternoons it is enveloped in the thickest fog and, with the cold and the snow, it becomes almost impossible to see a few meters away. Although a sunny day is unbeatable, perhaps the Bosnian winter is ideal to visit a place like this: a harsh reminder of the number of people who died during the Bosnian War in the 90"s. To get there from the historic center of the city you have to walk a little over a kilometer through the steeper streets that I saw in a long time. It is really amazing to see how the locals do to drive or walk up there without skating on the ice. On the way, you will see the real life of the inhabitants of this city and the poverty that still persists in this part of the world. It will not be among the main tourist attractions of the city, but the cemetery is worth visiting for whoever is interested in knowing the other side of Sarajevo.
