Castle
To beter understand Portalegre, I will tell you that the name of this city comes from the union of the words "port" and not because it has a seaport but due to the local trade routes and "cheerful", thanks to its rich vegetation and views of the Sierra de San Mamede. The castle is the ideal starting point, where tourists arrive breathless after climbing the hills. The castle, built in shades of ocher and red, rises at the top of the town, where you can enjoy some of the best views of the city. Entrance to the castle is free and you can camp near there too. To get to the main tower, you have to go on the roof which is well preserved but you need to be careful if you go with children.
