The Wallace Tower

Excellent

Airth Castle, which is now a hotel, restaurant and spa, has become very popular in the area, especially for weddings. The castle itself has space for twenty guests to stay (during weddings, these rooms are usually reserved for the wedding party and close relatives), and the building that once housed the stables today contains the spa, restaurant, and more hotel rooms. However, I'd like to talk a little bit about the historical interest of the castle. The original structure was built in 1248 by Adam de Airth, an aristocrat and major trader. William Wallace is said to have stayed here after fleeing Falkirk while being pursued by the English.

In his honour, the west wing of the castle is called the Wallace Tower. The castle has been renovated numerous times because of fires, attacks and other types of damage, so it's hard to get a feel for its true age. Nowadays, it stands in very good condition, but it is not popular with tourists, as it doesn't have the same historical atmosphere that you'll find in other Scottish castles.
