O Castelo de Sines, uma fortaleza medieval, foi erguido em 1424 sobre uma ponta da falésia, a mando de Francisco Neto Chainho Pão Alvo, durante o reinado de D. João I. Serviu como importante ponto de vigia e defesa da zona do Alentejo e acredita-se que terá sido na Torre de Menagem do Castelo, que o navegador português Vasco da Gama nasceu e é nesse local que atualmente encontramos o Museu de História Natural de Sines.
Desde 1933 que o Castelo de Sines foi classificado como Imóvel de Interesse Público e nesse sentido tem sofrido algumas obras de restauração. Se desejar pode fazer uma visita ao mesmo de terça a domingo e a entrada é livre.
