the Templars was built to act as a fortress
Despite the fact that the White Castle remains date back to the Pre-and Early History era, it was during the Middle Ages, between the years 1214 and 1230 to be precise, that the Templars was built to act as a fortress, a city enclosed by walls and watchtowers. While it is assumed that the limits had been established by Don Dinis, what is known for sure is whether it was Don Alfonso IV that had the walls built. As you can read in the literature, during the 6th Century the castle was a fortified town, with narrow streets and wide doors to allow for the passage of horses, carriages and stables. In the grounds of the fort you can see the church of Santa María del Castillo, which is also the former home of the parish.
