Renowned Folklorist

Excellent

Between the Plaza Mayor and the Puerta del Sol of Plasencia you’ll find the Calle del Arcediano and Calle del Sol. This little area measuring less than 250 meters is where you’ll find the home of Manuel García Matos.

Manuel García Matos was a well-known folklorist who was born in Plasencia in 1912. He dedicated a large part of his life to compiling musical works and studying traditional instruments and dances. His work was so important that we was awarded the National Folklore Prize in 1945 and tenure at the Royal Music Conservatory in Madrid.

His efforts to compile musical pieces didn’t just center on his region, but on Spain as a whole.

Since 2003, visitors can see a commemorative plaque on the façade of his home that recognizes his labors to conserve the culture and traditions of the villages of Spain.
