A popular hotel
Caravelle Hotel, with its Italian marble facade and bulletproof glass windows, became the best hotel in Vietnam and one of the most popular in Southeast Asia almost 50 years ago. After the liberation of Saigon in 1975, the hotel was purchased and operated by the Vietnamese government as the Hotel Independence. In 1998, it returned to its old name, and is once again considered the best hotel in town. The famous terrace bar is still standing, offering the best views of the city, and serving their famous cocktails. The rooms are great - the biggest beds I've ever seen, with comfortable mattresses and all the details and luxuries you could imagine.
