Canyonlands National Park

11 reviews of Canyonlands National Park

Labyrinth of countless canyons

Canyonlands National Park is one of my favorite parks in the South West United States. Its colorful landscape is amazing and it is like a labyrinth of countless canyons, mesas and buttes created by natural agents. It has a huge variety and it is absolutely huge. Some areas can only be explored with an off road vehicle (and even with those, you need to know what you are doing).

During my last trip there I decided to rent a Jeep from one of the outfitters in Moab to explore a section of the White Rim trail. I left Moab around 4am to be at Mesa Arch (you can see here a photo I took there) at sunrise to be able to shoot the arch with a rising sun. It was fantastic!

The descent into White Rim trail is absolutely breathtaking! It is a series of switchbacks that give you a gorgeous view at every step. Given the limited time available, I drove around 12 miles on the trail before I had to head back but every minute was precious and I will definitely go back for more!

Amazing national park

This is a vast and spectacular park where two rivers, the Colorado and Green, have excavated deep canyons in the heart of Utah. This national park includes some of the most complex and remote scenic areas in the United States. You can go rafting in some of the world's most exciting spots like any of the 26 rapids near Cataract Canyon dam. It is also a perfect place for mountain biking with excellent routes like the White Rim in Island in the Sky which is about 100 kilometers long.

And we can not forget about the trails, perfect for those who prefer to walk. There are two tourist information centers, located on each of the access roads.

There are also some camping sites that are accessible. Canyonlands National Park does not offer additional services, but there are excellent hotels, restaurants and other services in nearby towns.

The Shafer Trail

The Shafer Trail. My favorite picture of one of my favorite vacation days ever. It's like having Canyonlands NP to yourselves. We drove our own Wrangler but they are available for rent in Moab. I'm pretty sure any higher clearance 4wd would make the trip with no problem.

Just a few dozen miles from the small town of Moab, Utah, Canyonlands National PArk is one of the many national parks of the American West, and one of our favorites. I must say it is formed by the Colorado Plateau, simply outstanding, and contains beds of Colorado and Green rivers. The sunset is remarkable with the lights reflected on the rocks. The canyon is almost more impressive than the Grand Canyon in Arizona, as it is infinement less touristy and therefore we appreciate other place, by the peace and tranquility prevailing.

The immensity of Utah at my feet

We are at Dead Horse Point, the lookout on the deep can that winds travs Utah at the height of Moab, a foretaste of the Grand Khan of Colorado. The reddish rock that gives color and name to ro is interrupted occasionally by pequeas green spots. The vegetation is sparse in this semidesrtico place, but no less spectacular, with large moles of sheet rock rounded by erosion, loose along the ravine. Canyonlands is one of those places where the human being feels really pequeito nature.

The West huge and tortured

One of the largest North American parks on the Colorado Plateau. It was not the bewitching charm of "Arches" as geological forms are less "artistic" and then there is overwhelming for the man who feels small, especially as hikers disperse in its immensity . Often harsh and lunar landscapes, even if they have poetic names like "The Island in the Sky." The views are spectacular and long distances without any human settlement. The canyons are multiple (at least two rivers) and justify the "s" of the title.

Canyonlands, land of canyons

The name comes from the confluence of several natural canyons in the park. From this elevated location o, hence the name of the Island in the Sky Park visitor center, you can observe from cannons, to a formation that resembles a crater of extinct volcano. It is a place with incredible panormicas from any of its many panormicos points. In terms of scenery is far superior to The Needles, in the southern part of the park, and certainly if due to time out, this will make the visit instead of the southern part of the park.

Can nothing to envy to the Colorado ...

Spectacular definitely a place worth visiting. There is so much crush of people and can see different formations and landscapes in the same park.

A marvel of nature

Una maravilla de la naturaleza

Excellent
It is very close to Arcos National Park, and the town of Moab, where one can stay to visit these two parks. The Canyons or Canyonlands is very extensive and although it has trails and trails for walkers, which I recommend doing, it is certainly the photographers" paradise. You can see the Colorado River that has also carved a path between the hills. And it is that both these parks and those of Zion and Bryan, are part of the same geological fault that forms the Grand Canyon of the Colorado, and that in fact is relatively close. Highly recommended a visit to Moab and enjoy this park, and Los Arcos
