Restaurante Cañadio

The restaurant is one of the most renowned in the city, but the tapas bar at the front of the premises deserve all fame of the dining room. It’s a huge and well stocked bar, full to bursting with various tapas that are replenished regularly. It’s a huge temptation that is hard to resist. A good wine list (served at proper temperature), a very pleasant locale, and dedicated staff complement this bar that has more than earned the honor of carrying the name of the whole plaza.

The place is charming and the service great. We ate the dish of the day, a regional plate of chicken and rice, and frankly I think it’s the best rice I've ever eaten.

The wine was excellent, and the price, with dessert to share and several drinks, did not exceed 35 euros in total. Highly recommended.

Very close to the centre, the cathedral and the Mercado del Este (East Market) where there is a tourist information booth. You can choose between skewers or rations, with a value for money rating of 10! We were attended to luxuriously, it’s highly recommended. The scorpion fish pie is spectacular!

I’ve known Paco since he began and, even with ups and downs in the past; he’s placed Cañadio amongst the restaurants of reference in Cantabria. A special mention to Teresa, his wife, soul of the lounge and example of good practice. Highly recommended.

Veal cheeks, spectacular... As well as the scrambled eggs and potatoes with ham, and various tasty aperitifs, but without doubt our signature dish, the veal cheeks. Now we await the dessert with homemade cheesecake...
