Waking up with Elephants!
This campground was recommended by the guy with whom I did the safari in the Queen Elizabeth National Park. The truth is that with the views it has and being where the local people gather to drink, it is a cool place to spend the afternoon chatting and drinking beer. For around 10,000 shillings they loan you the tent, mattress and sheets. I was lucky enough to wake up when the bouncer from the bar (with his AK-47 on his back) hit a spoon against a pan, I understood nothing until I turned around and saw a whole family of elephants 100m from my tent, the man was making noise so the elephants wouldn't get too close and trample me.
Apparently in Katunguru is it normal that elephants come down at night and walk around the small town. This awakening, with a family of elephants, a pink dawn , looked like it was painted by a genius, as I was in the middle of Uganda, it is one of the lasting memories that I have from this amazing country.
