Evocative and magical

Sicily's beauty lies not only in its shores, but in rocky hills and cultivated valleys. A throwback to bygone times and landscape, forgotten by conquerors and politicians, the villages transport Sicily to Pirandello's novels and the Taviani Brothers movies. Caltabellotta is one of them. Located on a hill 850 meters high, the town is crowned by the ruins of a Norman fortress. It's a steep clime but don't miss the opportunity to see the views. Caltabellotta is gathered around the little square, overlooking the gulf. His red roofs stand against the stone and against the breathtaking scenery of endless cultivated fields.

Village life is very slow. There are no hotels or hostels, nor restaurants, only inns and a bar, which seems reserved for the village elders. Absolutely evocative and magical, this corner of Sicily is only 20 kilometers from the road along the sea.

Walking in the Dolomites of Sicily

A bit isolated within dell'agrigentino mountains, 800 meters above sea level, lies the village of Caltabellotta. It can be reached along a beautiful scenic route that winds winding starting from the coast of Sciacca. Almost unexpected rise in the meadows planted with pasture craggy mountains that resemble the dolomites. Paradise for climbers and hikers. The town of Caltabellotta there suddenly appears, past the last bend, and is a breathtaking sight. The houses of the village are like pearls embedded in the walls of the mountain fortress of the castle with the moon that dominates the city. The village is well worth a visit and especially for the natural setting in which it is inserted where stands the beautiful lace that rises to a height of 950 meters above sea level. Because of its strategic location and geographic stronghold was chosen as the ideal of the ancient peoples Sicani and the successive dominations who settled here. The climb to the summit of Pizzo is not particularly challenging and gratify you with a breathtaking 360 degree view of the entire territory and, on particularly clear days, you will even see the profile of Etna!
