Partendo da Roma percorrendo la Cassia ,dopo circa un'oretta di macchina siamo arrivati a Calcata, paesino in provincia di Viterbo. Dopo l'ultima curva appare questo paesino arroccato su uno sperone di roccia, sembra quasi sospeso nel vuoto. Circondato dalla verde Valle del fiume Treja. Purtroppo non è possibile parcheggiare l'auto, perché i posti sono riservati ai residenti. Quindi si lascia la macchina un po' distante dove è stato creato un parcheggio piccolino per i visitatori e si scende a Calcata a piedi. Sicuramente ne vale la pena perché è un paese molto particolare, come sono particolari e stravaganti i suoi abitanti. Attraverso un portale si accede all'interno del paesino, camminando per i viottoli si respira una magica atmosfera. Eh si qui il tempo sembra si sia fermato anni indietro, Camminando si incontrano botteghe e negozi di artigianato, sale da the , uno splendido forno che fa dolci molto buoni e vari tipi di biscotti : alla cannella, al cocco , all'arancio e cioccolata. Inoltre ci sono una serie di ristorantini per tutti i gusti, a Calcata dove si va si mangia sempre bene. Non è difficile incontrare dei personaggi singolari o artisti di strada che improvvisano uno spettacolo per il pubblico. Da sottolineare che il paese è molto pulito, gli abitanti sono molto attenti all'ambiente. In vari punti vi sono dei portaceneri artigianali, quindi non si gettano a terra i mozziconi di sigarette. Per chi ama l'arte ci sono anche mostre d'arte contemporanea. Calcata ha anche una chiesa piccolina in cui vengono ufficiate le messe. Insomma un posto da vedere per chi ama le atmosfere di altri tempi e paesaggi romantici.

Nel giugno 2006 il "Touring Club Italiano" ha attribuito a Calcata la "Bandiera Arancione", marchio di qualità turistico ambientale per l'entroterra. Gli abitanti non raggiungono le 1.000 unità, tra costoro una piccola popolazione di etnia straniera. Il paese di Calcata ed il suo borgo sono stati il set per diversi films e video.
