The Bridge on the Drina, or the Mehmed Pasha Sokolovic Bridge, was built between 1571 and 1577 in the town of Visegrad and has remained to this day a famous architectural and civil work of ancient times.
It was built on the orders of the then Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire, Mehmed Pasha Sokolovic, who was Serbian and from the Visegrad area. The Grand Vizier built the bridge as a sort of gift to the Serbian nation. The bridge is beautiful and architecturally complex and is today considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
