Bridge and Fortified Tower of Ucanha
Ranked as a National Monument [/ b], this bridge and tower are a unique medieval architectural complex in the country. Visiting is part of the Route of the Cistercian Vineyards. It is built on the river Varosa. No one knows the date of construction, but the bridge has a Romanesque origin (12th century) and a defensive tower was added in the Middle Ages. The bridge is made of five arches. The central one is wider and taller than the others. At one end of the bridge is a solid tower with a square base. It is 20 feet high. It is covered by a wooden roof and consists of three parts. The bottom is formed by an arc that forms a sort of tunnel that leads to the bridge, and that arc is a niche with the image carved in stone of Our Lady Castle.
