3 reviews of Lake Bratan

Perfect for a relaxing break

Lake Bratan is the second-largest lake on the Indonesian island of Bali. It's over a thousand feet high and is a volcanic crater which has filled up with water. To get there, you need to catch a minibus leaving from Ubud or the coast. On the road, we went down to see monkeys at the temple dedicated to the goddess Dewi Danu. You can go visit by boat or from your hotel or directly by bus if you're arriving from another coastal town. I arrived at the hotel in low season when it was almost empty and there was no staff. I even had to use the hotel's kitchen to cook my food, but I didn't mind. You can negotiate the price of the stay, as well.

Usually, it's the high-end hotels that give good deals, not the basic ones, but you can get a good room for a few dollars more than a hostel. The lake is very quiet, and surrounded by friendly people and delicious food. It's perfect for a relaxing break before heading off for a new adventures. Many people come to Bali just to see the beaches, but the interior has its charm too. The road up to the lake and the crater is beautiful. I came from Ubud, and then went down to Lovina. A night on the lake will cost around 5 euros or 8 for a couple. It's almost always cheaper to get a room for two than for one.
