Blackbeard's Castle

Ubicato nella parte superiore di Charlotte Amalie a St Thomas, in cima alla collina di Government Hill, il Castello di Barbanera fa parte dei cinque siti di interesse storico delle Isole Vergini. Il castello è stato costruito nel 1679 dai danesi con lo scopo di torre di guardia e per la protezione del porto dalle navi nemiche. Oggi il castello, che in realtà è costituito da una semplice torre circondata da curati giardini, può essere visitato partecipando a tour guidati, ma il motivo principale della visita, oltre all’interesse storico, è rappresentato dallo splendido belvedere che si affaccia sulla baia di St Thomas e su tutta Charlotte Amalie.

Located in the upper part of Charlotte Amalie in St Thomas, on top of the hill of Government Hill, the Blackbeard's Castle is part of the five sites of historical interest of the Virgin Islands. The castle was built by the Danes in 1679 with the aim of watchtower and for the protection of the harbor from enemy ships. Today the castle, which actually consists of a simple tower surrounded by manicured gardens, can be visited by taking part in guided tours, but the main reason for the visit, in addition to the historical, is represented by the gorgeous views overlooking the bay St Thomas and the entire Charlotte Amalie.
