Blair Castle

In the village of Atholl, near Pitlochry, is one of the most famous Scottish castles. Blair Atholl Castle (Blair Castle) which still belongs to the family who built it - the Atholl family. One difference to other castles is definitely the whiteness of its construction, which primarily and sunny days will bring out over the blue sky the impressive splendid green gardens. It also has another peculiarity, which is that it is the only one in which the owner has his own guard, called the Althollmen, who parade on a few days annually. We were not lucky enough to see them. Inside there is the magnificent collection of furniture and weapons and especially the grand ballroom.

It is impressive. Its construction dates back to 1269 when John Cumming began building a tower on the land occupied by the Count. The tower was completed, and it is the highest of the castle, carrying the name Cumming Tower in honour of its promoter. After numerous twists of history, the property passed to Iain Murray who with his mother, converted part of the castle into the tourist attraction that it has become today.
