Binibèquer Vell

Controversial but beautiful, the village of Binibèquer is found in the east of Menorca. It’s the central tourist point of the Sant Lluís municipality and is only a few kilometers from the airport. Getting there is easy from both Mahón and Ciutadella; just go to Sant Lluís and from there take the pretty highway towards Binibèquer.

The town is made up of primarily single-family homes but there are some hotels and tourist apartments where you can stay, the best of which are in Binibèquer Vell (not to be confused with Binibèquer, which is the larger metropolitan area).

This latter place is a resort town built in 1972 which imitates the style of the old fishermen’s houses. It’s somewhat controversial because many people aren’t fans of these new buildings; they consider them artificial and a ploy for tourists to make them believe it’s a real fishing village.

In the housing development of the same name, you’ll find the “fishing village” of Binibeca Vell, a picturesque architectural experiment which perfectly replicates the traditional Menorcan fishermen’s homes and has become a reference point for tourists.

One shouldn’t forget that, although beautiful and photogenic, the town is a replica and constitutes one of the few inauthentic places in the entire island.

But I must say that it makes you feel like a child! I’d recommend it 100% because you can eat in any of the local bars for rather cheap and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere day

Binibeca (in Castilian Spanish) is a small maritime village about 8km from the capital, Mahón. It’s a must-see if you’re in Menorca and is one of the island’s most popular destinations among tourists.

This charming town is full of tourists year-round. For this reason, it’s been completely restored. The narrow streets and postcard-ready white houses form an enchanting maze.

Although at first glance Binibeca gives the impression that no one lives there, the houses are indeed inhabited and you should respect the noise levels (this sentiment is emphasized by numerous signs on the street).
