Charming and beautiful village

Beynac-et-Cazenac is, without a doubt, the most charming and beautiful village in Perigord and is included in the official list of "Les plus beaux villages de France" (Most Beautiful Villages in France). Beynac-et-Cazenac is 10 minutes from Sarlat la Caneda a is located on a cliff which towers over the Dordogne River. The origins of Beynac-et-Cazenac date back to the Bronze Age (2000BC) and you can still see the vestiges of the original settlements in an Archeological Zone.

The castle which tops the village is a pillar which stoically withstood the Hundred Years War and is a shining example of medieval architecture.

It's been the backdrop for many famous movies like Joan of Arc by Luc Besson. The stone village is very well taken care of and it gives off a romantic atmosphere (it's great to get lost in the little narrow streets with a significant other!). Aside from visiting the castle, you can also take a walk along the banks of the Dordogne, visit the Archeological Zone, and the Cazeac church.

One of the most beautiful villages in France

Ranked as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Beynac et Cazenac belongs to Périgord, also considered one of France's most beautiful regions. The town is located on a hill, and getting there is a bit tricky, especially if you go with a baby stroller like I did! But arriving is worth the struggle...you'll be treated to a village of rustic houses, cobblestone streets, and a precious little castle. One piece of trivia: you won't see any cables or antennas running along the walls, everything is underground except for the community antenna, which is still hidden!
