We used Ghent as hub
On our break to Flanders we used Ghent as a hub as it is very well connected by rail with other cities (Bruges, Brussels and Leuven) and hotel prices were cheaper. We stayed at the 3 star Best Western Residence Cour St. Georges located in a historic eighteenth century building in the historic center of Ghent. Without doubt, it is the best location as you can walk anywhere in the city, it is in front of the Town Hall (Stadhuis) and one block from the famous Sint Baafs Plein, the square where the Cathedral is and Belfry (Belfort). It is a small hotel - only 32 rooms. I warn you that when I was there it was being remodeled, so I recommend asking for a room in the "new" hotel.
