Relaxing Sunday hike
Super easy, relaxing Sunday hike. The starting point of San Valentino is only 30mins from the Brennero motorway, take the Mori exit. From the car park follow the path marked 650. After a short climb through the woods you reach the Sentiero del Vipere. A combination of stemples and a wire as a handhold helps you to climb up the 50m cliff. This presents no technical difficulties, no special equipment is required and is completed in 15 mins arriving at Corna Bes, with a view straight down to the roofs of San Valentino.
For here follow signs to Corna Pania (1735m). The landscape is strangely reminiscent of the Yorkshire dales. On the summit are remains of military fortifications including trenches dug into the rock. There is a good view down the valley towards Trento, making this spot strategically important. The descent on the opposite side comes out at pass beside Rifugio Graziani and from here it is possible to continue up Monte Altissimo (2079m). However we had booked for lunch at Rifugio Fos-ce, 30 mins along the road back to San Valentino. This CAI Rifugio has six beds if you wish to stay overnight and serves up excellent mountain fare. The pasta selvaggina (a game sauce on this occasion made with hare) is recommended. To finish the owner kindly offered us his homemade grappa flavored with 13 different mountain herbs.
