L'hôtel Berthelot fut construit par René Berthelot qui fut maire de la ville en 1529, cet hôtel est l'un des premiers édifices de la renaissance à Poitiers. Le décor sculpté est inspiré de l'Italie et on remarque sur la porte d'entrée le blason des Berthelot. Ce bâtiment a été acquis par l’Université en 1959, l’édifice abrite désormais le prestigieux Centre d’Etudes Supérieures de Civilisation Médiévale fondé en 1953.
Berthelot The hotel was built by René Berthelot, who was mayor of the city in 1529, this hotel is one of the first buildings of the Renaissance in Poitiers. The carved decoration is inspired by Italy and can be seen on the front of the shield Berthelot door. The building was acquired by the University in 1959, the building now houses the prestigious Center of Higher Studies Medieval Civilization founded in 1953.
