Bemposta Dam

This dam is the village border crossing between Portuguese and Spanish Bemposta Fermoselle (Zamora). It is just outside Bemposta, and before reaching the dam one can stop at the Mirador de Cardal do Douro, from where there are great views of the whole environment. It is one of the dams constructed on the river Douro, in the natural park of Arribes, for use as power plant. The plant is underground and is equipped with 3 turbine generators with an installed capacity of 210 MW which is capable of producing an average of 1,086 GWh / year. The dam is amazing, 87 meters high above the bed of the Duero.
