Beautiful views
Torridon, in the middle of the Highlands, is an area rich in mountains, and a real heaven for mountaineers. There are numerous munros, that is to say peaks that stand over 900 meters high. Once again, I'd like to clarify that size isn't so important when it comes to Scottish mountains. There are more incidents each year in Scotland than in Italy, Switzerland and even Austria, because these mountains may be short, but climbing them is difficult and can be perilous.
Today I'd like to tell you about the path to the summit known as Beinn Alligan (roughly translates as 'jewel hill'). This mountain is located just north of Loch Torridon, and has two peaks, the southern Tom na Gruagaich (922m) and the northern Sgrr Mhr (986 m).
They both require a certain level of expertise, and in winter can be dangerous, especially without crampons or ice axes. There are beautiful views as you climb the mountains, and the shortest route, from the village of Torridon, will take you up and down in about 7 - 8 hours, covering 10 - 11 kilometers in total. Be sure to plan carefully if going in winter, because of the shortness of the days.
