Tranquil Tillamook Beach
Venture off the beaten path and visit this wonder of a beach on the Oregon coast. Turn on 3rd street off of Hwy 101. Cross the Tillamook River and take Bayocean Rd. all the way to the lot for Bayocean Peninsula County Park. Here, you are surrounded by water; the Pacific ocean on one side, and Tillamook Bay on the other. This naturally beautiful beach is covered in dune grass, Scotch Broom, and fine sand to walk on. In the early 1900s, it was actually the site of a planned resort community housing thousands of people. However, the building of a jetty and several storms actually created man-induced coastal erosion.
Several buildings were lost to the sea, and none remain today. It was meant to be an open, windswept, tranquil, and non-built up beach, and it's beautiful that way. Take a long walk, look for seashells and treasures, have a picnic, eat some Tillamook ice cream, or spend your time any way you please at this lovely beach. Just don't miss this beauty!
