Bastion of the Tailors
Cluj Napoca, a fortified medieval town, is surrounded by 18 towers and bastions funded by each of the guilds of the city. The Tailors Bastion is the only tower that remains intact, and was funded by the Guild of Tailors. It was built in the 15th century but rebuilt in the seventeenth, with stone walls topped by battlements. It has been restored and houses the House of Culture [/ b], which is a literary café in the basement, a conference room and several rooms for exhibitions. In front of the bastion is a sculpture dedicated to Baba Novac [/ b], a national hero who was burnt alive and impaled after being accused of treason.
