Las sandalias de Ulises
Basilica of Saint Nicholas Roman
San Nicolas is the patron saint of sailors and this city's main basilica. The first document describing the basilica dates back to 1252, and was probably built on what remained of fortifications above the town. The first reconstruction of the basilica began in 1596 and continued in various phases until 1774. The building had a neoclassical facade with a pediment supported by six Corinthian columns. While these changes didn't change much of the original design, in the 19th century they decided for a substantial expansion of the church. The current appearance was designed by Jose Bovara who worked from 1831-1862.
