Matriz Church
Another spot that's worth visiting in Cologne is the mythical Mother Church, in the shaded Plaza de Armas square. This church, on which construction started in 1680, is the oldest in Uruguay, but it has been completely rebuilt two times. In the same square as the church there are preserved foundations of a house from the time of Portuguese occupation. It's a much more interesting whitewashed church on the outside and in its surroundings than on the inside, which doesn't seem all that special at all.
