Ballestas Islands

Ballestas Islands Nature Reserve is five hours south of Lima, near Pisco. In the mornings ferries go to the islands where there are a lot of different species of birds, sea lions, Humboldt penguins and with some luck you can even spot dolphins. On the way towards the islands there is a stop beside a rocky island on which you will see a petroglyph engraved in the form of a candelabra. No one knows who did it, or when or why it was done, but it is believed that it was the work of a pre-Inca civilisation.
