Finally, a Bacoa in Madrid!
Finally, Bacoa has arrived in Madrid! Bacoa is a small chain of burger restaurants based in Barcelona and a place I always make a point to visit whenever I visit there. For me, they serve some of the best burgers in Spain: not too greasy, not too overwrought or frilly, just good and satisfying. Well, they’ve finally made the leap to Madrid and opened up their first restaurant in the Spanish capital on Calle Arenal, just steps from the famous Puerta del Sol in the center of the city.
The concept is simple: you grab a menu, pencil in type of meat you want (organic or non-organic), the type of bread, your sides, and type of toppings you’d like. The toppings range from classic (your basic meat, lettuce, tomato, and onions) to interesting combinations like caramelized onions and blue cheese or my personal favorite, “the Australian” comprised of bacon, grilled beets, cheddar, and BBQ sauce. While I almost always order the Australian, the last time I went I got the “La Bacoa” which comes with smoked bacon, Irish Cheddar, Manchego cheese, and homemade spicy mustard. It was seriously good. Gooey cheese, well-cooked meat, and a great smokiness from the bacon. Burger heaven.
