Avelar Brotero Monument

The monument to the Portuguese man Avelar Brotero is at the entrance of the Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra, Brotero was the first director of the Botanic Garden. The statue dates from 1887, as stipulated on the stone base, and is part of the beautiful Jardin that was built by the Marquis of Pombal in 1772, for use as a natural history laboratory at the University.
