Aubeterre-sur-Dronne
Located between Charente and Aquitaine, the beautiful village of Aubeterre has a Spanish air due to its stone houses, roofs of warm colors, wooden balconies, the central square and the memories of the Camino de Santiago. But the biggest thing about this village is its underground church. It is the tallest monolithic temple in France. To give you an idea of the wonder of this site, this cave shrine was built in the twelfth century from a single block of stone. Its builders took advantage of the oldest caves and excavations used by early Christians to practice their religions. The origin and function of the site is still a mystery.
