National Art Gallery of Finland
The Atheneum Art Museum is the country´s national gallery. Its purpose is to care, develop, explore and present the most important art collections in Finland. Through its exhibitions and other activities, The Atheneum promotes awareness and appreciation of the visual arts and cultural heritage both in country and internationally. It is located in the main square of Helsinki´s central railway station.
The Atheneum building was designed by architect Theodor Höijer and opened in 1887 and is considered a national monument. Among its recent exhibitions have been figures as important as Picasso and huge Finnish artists in painting and photography.
