Atalaya de Valporquero Torio

Impresionante mirador o atalaya sobre la Cordillera Cantábrica y el valle que va moldeando ferozmente el precioso río Torío. Esta atalaya se sitúa en el pueblo de Valporquero de Torío (también se conoce como Valporqueiro de Torío), dentro del término municipal de Vegacervera. Desde el propio pueblo, situado a 1370 metros de altitud (suele hacer mucho frío), hay un letrero que indica "Atalaya", y tras recorrer unos 300-400 metros se llega a un parking donde se puede dejar el coche, aunque recomiendo subir andando desde el propio pueblo. Tras subir unas escaleras, se llega a una balconada de cemento, flanqueada por dos banderas de Castilla y León, balconada que cae al vacío hacia el valle del río Torío. Se divisa el pequeño pueblo de Felmín en el fondo del valle, situado en la entrada de las abruptas paredes de la Hoces de Vegacervera. Por lo demás, al frente, los altos picos de la Cordillera Cantábrica, en el límite entre Asturias y León. Dándonos la vuelta, el pueblo de Valporquero de Torío destaca "resguardado" entre las montañas por cuyas entrañas discurre el recorrido de la cueva de Valporquero, una estampa de auténtico pueblo de montaña, un sitio inhóspito en invierno pero bucólico cuando hace buen tiempo. Más que una visita recomendada, creo que la visita a esta atalaya es obligada para completar la excursión a las cercanas Cuevas de Valporquero. No te arrepentirás, en días despejados las vistas desde este gran mirador, por algo se llama atalaya, son de auténtica pasada.
