Coline
An architectural gem
The canals of the city provide a nice way to discover Canterbury, with plenty of river boats around and a chance to discover the town's architectural heritage. Among the unmissable buildings is the Assisi Cottage, perched on the banks of the canals. It dates back to the eighteenth century, a good example of a building from the period of Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger. A national tax on the number of houses' windows had been introduced, which explains the lack of windows! An architectural gem not to be missed.
