Asinara National Park

L’Asinara is an island and national park in the waters between Sardinia and Corsica. Ferries head to L’Asinara twice a day from Porto Torros and Stintino. The Asinara natural park is home to native albino donkeys and it’s not uncommon to see several donkeys and occasional wild boar during your visit. The park is also a protected marine area. Not surprising really, as it’s probably the most beautiful, clear water I’ve seen in my life, perfect for snorkeling or diving!

When you visit, I’d suggest catching the bus that circles the entire island. You can always get off where you like and wait for the next bus to come (or, go by foot but make sure to bring sunscreen and plenty of water!). Don’t forget your bikini and camera, either!

A national park

Ansinara Island is a national park. On our trip to Sardinia we made an excursion to this unspoiled paradise in 4x4 jeeps. More than words, the pictures speak for themselves. The island terrain is very hilly and full of coves with typical Sardinian beaches. However, the upper part has the tallest tower lookout with a unique and magical view. Until then you can only reach the road by jeeps as it is not quite flat. A very enjoyable experience that I recommend to everyone.

Native albino donkeys

Asinara Island is only a short trip from the port of Stintino and you can get there on a hired boat or catamaran. All the tours are guided and wandering alone on the island is prohibited. The tours take you along a coastal path that passes by the old buildings which were once the prison of Asinara. You can also see the island's native albino donkeys.
