Climbing to Gompa Samstemling

This beautiful climb leaves you astounded as you travel several km that separate Sumur from the top of the Samstemling gompa. This gompa is actually seven temples scattered throughout the northern part of Tager and Sumur. These are separated by a few km, 5 or 6 at the most, however they are almost joined because this temple complex almost reaches the outskirts of both towns. The walk I did that day was the most fun thing I did on my trip to the Nubra Valley. Countless streams violently descend down both sides of upwards climb. The road twists to either side making the steep climb smoother for the Buddhist gompas and yet more and more streams cross your path.

They are actually man-made pipes for delivering the tremendous flow of water coming down from the snowy peaks in melting season. The sound of water running so strongly makes this Buddhist temple complex seem even more magical.
