Overlooking the Hebrides
On the west coast of the "Highlands", leaving the domain of Argyll and entering Lochaber, there are a number of coastal towns with beaches and views of the Hebrides. One is the village of Arisaig, which is practically on the coast in a small natural bay. Most of the town's activity occurs on a main road, where there are shops, post offices and the hotel pub and restaurant. On the other side, there is a small fishing harbour and a lovely walk by the sea, with direct views of the islands of Eigg and Muck. Historically, this location had some importance in the 17th century during the Jacobite uprising.
In fact, the hotel was founded during this time. It's ideal for an overnight so you can be close to the Mallaig ferry to one of the most famous of the Hebrides, the Isle of Skye. It's also a perfect place to stay after the trip, for some seafood or fish dinner and to relax watching the sea and the sun, especially in summer when the sun sets around 11:00pm.
