Palace of the Argentine National Congress

13 reviews of Palace of the Argentine National Congress

Amazing building

The Palace of the Argentine National Congress was started in 1897 and completed in 1906. The dome and the sculpture are well worth stopping to admire. The building was built in the Greco-Roman style by the Italian architect Victor Meano. The dome, which measured 80 meters high, is a spectacular work of engineering, designed to support the 30,000 tons of the central dome. The cap of the dome is a steel lattice structure and the four pillars on the drum are made up of 300 square meters of granite. The dome has a copper cover, so weather and humidity have given it a greenish color. Above the front gable of the building is an ornate 15 meter high sculpture of a chariot by the sculptor Victor de Pol that is 8 feet tall and weighs 8 tons.
