Arequipa

Arequipa is called the White City and it is built with stones that centuries ago were spat out by the redoubtable Misti Volcano. There are colonial mansions of noblemen, and a main square shaded by palm trees where at work benches scribes write or type letters or documents for customers. The city in southern Peru has an overwhelming personality, very different from Lima. The Arequipa has its own cuisine, the best and most famous dish is 'rocoto (a kind of large pepper) in the style of arequipeña'. It also has another way of talking, different customs. Arequipa also has treasures. One is the unmissable Monasterio de Santa Catalina .
