Remote and beautiful
Ardeche in France is famous because it is a place that is still quite remote, and where you find sites of great natural beauty. You can rent a "gite", which is like a guest house, except you have it all, for 4 to 20 people for the whole week. It's best to have a car to enjoy the region. The opportunities for hiking, climbing, kayaking, rafting and other outdoor sports are endless. Some of the cottages hire out horses and bicycles. In Privas there is a tourist office that can help you with making plans. The most visited are the Gorges of the Ardeche, which you can canoe along. Then there are old castles, like Crussol, the medieval village of Saint Montan, which was renovated by 10,000 volunteers from all over the world, and a road tour where there is much more to discover.
