Archaeological Site of Ani

Ani, antica capitale dell'Armenia, era soprannominata la città delle mille chiese, visto che era tra le poche città cristiane della zona e vi erano state costruite molte chiese. Le rovine sono facilmente raggiungibili da Kars che dista 45 km. Ad oggi della città restano le mura, pesantemente restaurate per far vedere la loro imponenza, una tra le prime moschee selgiuchide assolutamente fantastica ed una mezza dozzina di chiese di cui alcune sono assolutamente imperdibili. Tre di esse sono dedicate a san Gregorio, questo puó spesso causare confusione, la più bella di queste tre è un pò nascosta, per trovarla basta dirigersi verso il fiume dalla chiesa dimezzata. Dalla città si vede pure l'antica fortezza, ma purtroppo il passaggio non è consentito perché zona militare (essendo sul confine con l'Armenia). Oltre a ció ci sono vari resti della città, che fanno rievocare il fasto e la grandiosità che un tempo era. È consigliato di andarci il prima possibile, sia per evitare troppa gente sia per il calore che ad una cert ora diventa insopportabile...

Ani, the ancient capital of Armenia, was known as the city of a thousand churches, because it was one of the few Christian cities in the area and there were built many churches. The ruins are easily accessible from Kars which is 45 km. To date, the city walls remain, heavily restored to show their grandeur, one of the first Seljuk mosques absolutely fantastic and half a dozen churches, some of which are not to be missed. Antica capitale del Regno armeno che comprendeva l'Armenia attuale e parte della Turchia orientale. Situata tra due suggestive gole, gole di un panorama mozzafiato. Chiamata "Città delle 101 Chiese" si trovava al crocevia di numerose strade commerciali ed i suoi edifici erano tra i più avanzati, a livello tecnico ed artistico, del mondo.
