Archaeological museum
The museum is housed in a building that was completed in the early 17th century, making use of a structure erected some years before. It opened in 1615 as the "Royal Palace of studies", and was the headquarters of the University of Naples. King Ferdinand IV commissioned the architect Ferdinando Fuga to restore and adapt the building to accommodate the Royal Bourbon Museum and Library in 1777, when the university moved to another site.
