A lovely town
On the outskirts of Kyoto is a lovely town called Arashiyama. The best way to get there from the city is by tram, and it's a very pleasant journey. When you reach the station, I recommend buying some cookies from the kiosk (they have all sorts of flavours ... personally I recommend the cinnamon). In the same village I recommend Arashiyama park, at the top of a mountain. The climb is tiring, but well worth it, and as you get to the top, monkeys will start appearing all over the place. Beautiful, but hide your food, because they have no qualms about stealing!
