Dazzling views

The town of Thira is located just across the sea, at an altitude of about 260 meters. From here, you can easily reach the harbour which is now used exclusively for tourist purposes. This is a lovely paved road, which connects the port to Thira. The road is used by donkeys, transporting people around: I don't recommend wearing sandals, as the street is thick with droppings. In the harbour you can take a boat to the volcano, or swim in the clear waters. You can return to Thira by cable car, which offers dazzling views.

C’est le nouveau port de Santorin en remplacement du port de Thira. Il accueille les ferries venant de toutes les iles grecques et d’Athènes. Il est encadré de falaises monumentales (j'espère que les photos rendent compte de ce gigantisme car ça écrase en général). Une route sinueuse et vertigineuse permet de remonter à la surface de l’île. La vue sur les falaises depuis le bateau en arrivant au port est admirable. Santorin étant dépendante à 100% de la Grèce continentale et de la crête pour toute son économie, c’est un port de commerce important et le nombre de bateaux accostant sur les quais minuscules entraine rapidement la congestion du port. Il n’est pas rare de voir des ferries attendre avant de pouvoir accoster. Ce petit port sert aussi de point de départ pour les nombreuses excursions touristiques dans la caldeira. Il est desservi par les bus locaux.

This is the new port of Santorini Thira Port replacement. It welcomes all ferries from Greek islands and Athens. It is flanked by monumental cliffs (I hope the photos reflect this gigantism because it crashes in general). A winding and steep road leads up to the surface of the island. The view of the cliffs from the boat arriving at the port is admirable. Santorini is 100% dependent on the Greek mainland and the ridge to its economy, it is an important commercial port and the number of boats landing on the tiny platforms quickly leads to port congestion. It is not uncommon for ferries wait to dock. This small port is also used as a starting point for many excursions in the caldera. It is served by local buses.
