Used for concerts

Excellent

In Corfu, there are two fortresses which display their strategic character. One is called the old or ancient fortress. It's on a rocky ledge in the east of the city and is separated by a moat. It is an 8th century Byzantine construction that was completed in the 15th century during the Venetian domination. You can climb up to the top where there is a lighthouse overlooking the whole city. The views are truly magnificent. After climbing down and facing south, there's a building that looks like a Doric Greek temple, which is actually a neoclassical church built by the British in 1840. This Church of St.

George is mainly used for concerts now, since there is the building onsite that houses the Music Conservatory. There are two chapels in the departure hall of the fortress. In one of them, there's a display with a series of photographs of religious ceremonies. In the other, there's an exhibition of Byzantine mosaics and frescoes of ancient Corfiots churches.
