Land of meadows
The easiest route to reach Almachar from the Malaga part of Rincon de la Victoria, on the coast. After going through Benagalbón and Moclinejo, Almachar appears before you, seated on rough terrain. Curiously, the name comes from Arabic Mashar (or Mayxar) which means "land of meadows". The abrupt township is watered by the Almachar and Borge rivers and crowned by the hills of El Acebuchal (542 m) nnd Patarra (489 m).
