1 review of Alloa Tower

Scottish Industrial Revolution

Excellent

Alloa is one of the main towns in Clackmannanshire County, along the River Forth at Stirling about 13 miles. The village was founded by the Barony of the Erskine family in the fourteenth century who acquired the lands. Today it is the administrative center of the county. The town's economy was based on the importance of its port because in Victorian times it was one of Scotland's main industrial areas (even more than Glasgow). This lasted until the early '70s, when the port was closed along with many local factories, apart from the brewery and glass works. Today it is considered to be in a bit of a depression but it hasn't lost its charm, mainly because of the friendliness of its inhabitants - there are around 19,000 people living here.

Its main attraction is Alloa Tower and some buildings dating back to the industrial revolution. Maybe not the most attractive place to visit, but if in Stirling, it is well worth a visit. I have spent a lot of time in Alloa and its people are worth the time of day, they're plain and nice ...and, like everywhere, there's always something to grab your attention.
