A historical ferry crossing
Located at the southern end of the famous Canal Street, marking the western edge of the Old Quarter of New Orleans, Algiers Point sits on the Canal Street Wharf, and is the historical starting point for the ferry that crosses the Mississippi, taking you to the other side of the river in just a few minutes. The crossing is free for pedestrians, and gives you a chance to "sail" on the world's third largest river! Historically, it was opened in 1719, and used in the transit of slaves arriving in New Orleans.
